Downhill at high velocity!

Just to update you on the situation I am really not making a lot of progress. I am going downhill rather rapidly. On the positive front a new hospital bed has arrived and was rapidly installed by a couple of nice chaps. It fits nicely into a corner of my bedroom. It has all the tipping and lifting functions but best of all it has a special air mattress. This is connected to a compressor which chugs along quietly changing the shape of the mattress helping to prevent bed sores and keep me comfortable. It takes a bit of getting used to but overall it is a great improvement.  I usually manage to get into a comfortable position. I don't know how long I've got now but the nurses as they increase the pain relief drugs are careful to leave a well documented trail so I'm not sure if this will be the last message you get from me but I will do my best to post another because you've all been very good readers all around the world. I know that my Redeemer lives and that one day we can all meet up again. This didn't all happen by accident. We have to be part of a bigger plan, and that comforts me. God bless you, Alan Carter. 1. Jason was in Selsdon today, and left a Christmas card on the table in the foyer. I do hope someone picks it up and delivers it to you! Happy Christmas to you, sweet Alan Carter.

  5. Alan, you are such an example. I have learnt so much from you. I never have problems these days only challenges, some big, some small. If this is your last message - God be with you 'til we all meet again. Love to you, Ros and all your family.xx

  7. Hi, you probably don't remember me but I served in the Selsdon ward for a short time in 1998. You were the ward mission leader at the time and one P-day you took us out flyfishing at a local pond. That day I fell in love with flyfishing, and though I have only done it a few times since (but hope to more!), everytime I do I think of the kindness you showed taking us out. Tight lines and Godspeed.

  8. I met you several times, as I was in sweet Naomi's ward. You and your wife have raised some amazing children and have wonderful grandchildren. I taught Morgan for over a year in primary and am so grateful for the privilege to know your family. Thank you for raising them in the gospel and leaving such a wonderful legacy. I am so sorry for your pain, and the heartache your passing will have for your family and so many others, but am truly grateful for your testimony. Our father in heaven does have a plan for each and everyone of us, and I am so grateful for all of his tender mercies, and the plan of salvation. Much love, and prayers and blessings from across the pond.

  10. It's very poignant reading your blog Alan. Brings back so many memories of dad. Perhaps you will see him on the other side. I hope so! He certainly was very fond of you. Wishing you peace as you go through this.

  11. Gareth and Holly spoke in our ward recently. They were superb and listening to your son brought back so many memories of listening to you as an uplifting, inspiring, encouraging and empowering man and leader. It's heartbreaking to see what you are going through but I'm so glad I got to visit with you recently. It's not often we get to tell people who have shaped our lives how much we owe to them and that it does not go unoticed. Thanks for changing my life for the better with your example. I add my name to the long list of men who are 'better' men because they knew you and wanted to be a little bit like Alan Carter. If there's no fishing when you get there please find a way of letting me know so that I can make other plans. Love you tons mate.
